I can't write a review based on the treatment because I never met the doctor. I made an appointment for an consultation over the telephone. I was interested in laser hair removal on my face. One of the questions that was asked was regarding my ethnicity and my skin color. I informed the receptionist that I was African American with fair skin. The day before the appointment the doctor had her receptionist call and inform me that she would not see me because I am African American and my skin color!
She stated that the doctor did not have the tools for my skin color and didn't want to burn me. I have a problem with this simply because she has NO IDEA what I look like. How can you know that you can't help me based on a description over the telephone. I have never been so offended in my life. Having had laser treatment before I understand that some skin tones and hair colors may not be ideal for laser hair removal. However, the fact that she won't meet with me is simply ignorant and disgusting.
I guess I should feel better because when I explained how angry I was to the receptionist she apologized and informed be that the doctor also turns away those of Hispanic and Arabic descent because of our darker skin that she doesn't have the tools to treat. The receptionist did refer me to another office that had the tools to accommodate my African American skin. Seems to me the doctor at the North Jersey Laser Associates may want to invest in the tools that are necessary to treat people of all races and ethnicities.
I copied the following statement from the web site of North Jersey Laser Associates: " What patients should know. Lasers and light sources work best on light-skinned, dark-haired individuals because the light from these lasers is not significantly absorbed by dark pigments in the surrounding skin. The Gentle Lase does not work on grey hair, red hair, or very blonde hair."
